Our Fabric

The naturally smooth fibers in our fabrics feel like silk on the skin! Made out of sustainable fibers from Organic Cotton, Hemp, Bamboo, Beech Wood Trees and Eucalyptus Trees!!

The fabrics are naturally breathable, irritation free, suitable for sensitive skin, moisture wicking, anti-microbial,  and anti-fungal!

Organic Cotton:
Organic Cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown. – Organic Trade Association

Tencel:
Tencel is a sustainable yarn. It has the inherent performance features of strength, moisture transfer and the natural inhibition of bacteria growth. All while providing superior softness and comfort. Tencel is derived from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified Eucalyptus pulp which means that it is certified to be derived from responsibly managed forests. It is made in a closed loop process (that won Lenzing the “European Award for the Environment” by the European Union) using a non-toxic solvent and can be dyed using less dyestuffs, water and sodium. – Buhler Yarns

Modal:
Modal (also made by the Lenzing company through the same closed loop process) is a cellulose fiber made from beech trees. Textiles made from Modal are resistant to shrinkage and fading. Even after repeated washing, Modal remains absorbent, soft and supple just like on the very first day. The smooth surface characteristics of the Modal fiber make it impossible for lime scum to be deposited on the textiles thus
preventing fabric hardening after repeated washings.

Hemp:
Hemp is naturally one of the most ecologically friendly fabrics and also the oldest, dating back to approximately 8,000 BC. Hemp fiber is one of the strongest and most durable natural textile fibers; having a much longer lifespan than other fabrics. This fabric launders easily, handles extreme temperatures well and is a machine washable linen. Hemp dries extremely quickly naturally (air dried) or is easily tumble-dried. With each wash, Hemp continually reveals new surfaces and becomes softer w/ each use. Hemp fabric rapidly absorbs moisture, which accounts for its coolness and comfort and has natural anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties.

Bamboo:
Bamboo grows incredibly quickly, both the natural and the industrial culture of this plant is achieved without the use of any pesticides or fertilizers. Growing at a rate of up to a foot a day, bamboo reaches its maximum height in about 3 months and reaches maturity in 3-7 years. Its stunning, low maintenance, growth rate coupled with its myriad uses in every element of human existence makes it arguably the most sustainable resource on earth. Bamboo fabrics are naturally smooth, soft, and feel like silk on the skin.

Ohganix™ Fabric Ingredients – Free of heavy metals and harmful chemicals

*All our garments contain organic material.  Although the fabric may not be “certified” organic, the natural fibers used in the fibers are grown without pesticides, herbicides, and harmful chemicals.  The fibers are also not processed using bleach, heavy metals, and toxic dyes.

Crops such as hemp, Tencel (made from Eucalyptus tree), and Modal (made from Beech Wood tree) are usually cultivated in a forest where they grow naturally without the use of artificial agents.  Currently, organic cotton and bamboo are the main fabrics that are “certified” organic because they are grown on a farm and the land they are grown on has been certified organic by a certifying agency.
